OLD FLOWER PAINTINGS IRIS AND GERBERAS, OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS, ART DECO, JULIEN STAPPERS. (QF713)

The Antique Flower Paintings category presents a large and refined oil painting on canvas, a floral still life dating from the

late 19th century or the early years of the 20th century, associated with Art Nouveau and Art Deco aesthetics.

This is a charming floral still life, executed with a soft and textured oil painting technique, characteristic of traditional oil painting.

At the center of the composition stands a bouquet of flowers, mainly in shades of blue, light blue, and lilac, reminiscent of Delphinium,

also known as Larkspur, arranged in a spontaneous and slightly asymmetrical manner.

The flowers rise from a decorated vase, likely ceramic, adorned with delicate floral motifs. In the background or to the side, a second,

larger vase can be glimpsed, enriching the scene without detracting from the main subject.

The oil painting on canvas is signed in the lower right corner J. Stappers, a Belgian painter known for still lifes and floral compositions.

Julien Stappers (1875–1960) was a Belgian painter who primarily depicted flowers and still lifes, achieving noteworthy artistic results.

He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and later exhibited his works in Brussels. His artistic training took place in

Belgium during a period influenced both by academic tradition and by modern post-impressionist movements.

The oil painting retains its original Montparnasse frame, carved and lacquered wood, contemporary with the artwork.

Both the painting and the frame have been professionally and carefully restored.

The artwork Antique Flower Paintings with Delphinium, Oil on Canvas, late 19th or early 20th century, Art Deco, offered by the

BISGART COLLECTION, is housed at our gallery, where numerous other antique works, including floral still lifes, are available.
