ANTIQUE PAINTINGS, VIEW OF VENICE, OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS, 20TH CENTURY. (QP694)

The Old Paintings, Landscape Paintings category features a Glimpse of Venice, a Venetian canal. Art Deco.

The antique oil painting depicts a stretch of shore with a leafy tree framing the scene.

On the opposite side are tall, narrow Venetian palaces, with warm-toned facades, reflected in the water.

In the canal, a small rowboat and, in the distance, a white sailboat, lending movement and vitality to the scene.

The reflections in the water are rendered with loose brushstrokes, capturing the light of sunset or the early evening hours.

This is an oil painting on canvas from the late 19th or early 20th century.

The painting is signed lower left V. Brugairolles, French painter of landscapes and figures.

He studied under Fernand Cormon at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, one of the most influential masters of the time.

He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1894 and 1936. He was also an Officier d’Académie from February 15, 1900.
