This antique oil painting on canvas has an original gold frame realised in the 1800s.

The oil painting dates back to the late nineteenth Century and it represents one of the most beautiful

paintings of Bisgart Collection of Antique Paintings of the 19th Century

This landscape art work, XIX Century, is signed by E. Fontana (1860-1938), italian painter.

Ernesto Fontana (1837-1918), was born in Milan and died in Cureglia in Switzerland.

He studied at the Brera Academy until 1863 and was a pupil of Hayez and Bertini.

For many years he shared the atelier with his friends from Tranquillo Cremona studio, Daniela Ranzoni, Filippo Carcano, Mosè Bianchi.

He begins by painting historical pictures that give him a lot of fame and then he tries his hand at genre paintings and portraits.

He wins a gold medal at the Ferrara Exhibition in 1875.

The painter's works can be found in the Contemporary Art Gallery of the Castello Sforzesco.
