Antique Still Life Painting, Jules Félix Ragot, White And Pink Roses, Floral Painting, Oil On Canvas, XIX (QF790)
ANTIQUE PAINTING, FLORAL STILL LIFE, VASE OF WHITE ROSES, OIL ON CANVAS, 19TH CENTURY (QF790)
The antique floral still-life painting presented here depicts a rich bouquet of roses, painted in oil on canvas in the 19th century.
The antique painting portrays a composition of white and pink roses arranged in a dark decorative vase. The flowers,
depicted at different stages of bloom, stand out for the delicacy of their petals, their soft colour gradations, and the natural arrangement
of the branches and green leaves. The vase, embellished with small gilded ornamental motifs, rests on a surface in warm tones.
A work typical of the decorative taste of 19th-century French floral painting.
This antique painting of flowers, a floral still life signed by Jules Ragot in the lower right-hand corner of the canvas,
is by a French painter specialising in floral still-life compositions.
Jules Félix Ragot (1835–1912) was born in Paris, where he received his artistic training under Jean Murat (1807–1863) and
François-Édouard Picot (1786–1868), both important figures in 19th-century French painting.
Ragot made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1867, beginning an exhibition career that continued until 1893. Around 1870, Ragot
left Paris and moved to Belgium, settling in the Brussels area, initially in Ixelles. There, he developed a significant artistic career and
also took part in the Brussels Salon of 1875.
His presence in the Belgian art scene was noteworthy: some of his works were acquired by King Leopold II, while Queen Marie Henriette
of Belgium attended his painting lessons.
The antique painting is presented in a gilded frame.
Both the antique frame and the oil painting have been carefully and professionally restored.
