Antique Painting, Edmond His, Landscape With River Painting, XX Century. (QP703)
ANTIQUE PAINTINGS, LANDSCAPE WITH RIVER, EDMOND HIS, OIL ON CANVAS, EARLY 20TH CENTURY (QP703)
The Antique Paintings, Landscape with River category features an oil on canvas artwork from the early 20th century,
depicting a tranquil natural scene, a river landscape immersed in nature that evokes serenity and harmony. French School.
In the foreground, a leaning tree on the right stretches toward a clear watercourse reflecting hues of green and gold.
Moss-covered rocks dot the riverbank and bed. Sunlight gently filters through the foliage, creating a soft, natural chiaroscuro,
while the water mirrors the sunlight and the shadows of the trees. Art Deco period.
The antique painting is signed lower right E. René His, a French painter renowned for his landscapes: forests, riverbanks,
ponds, and waterways.
René Charles Edmond His (1877-1960) was born in Colombes, near Paris, and studied under the academic masters Jules Lefebvre,
Henri Biva, Tony Robert-Fleury, and Léon Tanzi. He became a member of the Société des Artistes Français in 1897, earning several
distinctions: honorable mention (1898), third-class medal (1900), and recognition at the Exposition Universelle (1900).
His work adheres more closely to academic and naturalistic traditions than to Impressionism or the avant-garde.
His paintings are held in major museums such as the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes, Musée Boucher de Perthes (Abbeville),
Musée de Cahors, Musée de Charleville, Musée de Constantine, and Musée de Senlis.
The oil painting comes with a beautiful gilded frame from the same period, both frame and canvas carefully and professionally restored.
This artwork, Antique Landscape Painting with River and Forest, is part of the Bisgart Collection and can be viewed by appointment at our gallery.
