ANTIQUE PAINTINGS, LANDSCAPE WITH RIVER, EDMOND HIS, OIL ON CANVAS, EARLY 20TH CENTURY (QP709)

The Antique Paintings, Landscape with River and Water Lilies, features an early 20th-century oil painting on canvas

depicting a natural landscape, a river scene immersed in nature, conveying serenity. French School.

In the foreground, a stream with water lilies reflects the vegetation and shades of green.

The light filters delicately through the foliage, creating a soft and natural chiaroscuro effect, and

the water reflects the sun's rays and the shadows of the trees.

The antique painting is signed lower left E. René His, a French painter renowned for his landscapes: forests, riverbanks,

ponds, and waterways.

René Charles Edmond His (1877-1960) was born in Colombes, near Paris, and studied under the academic masters Jules Lefebvre,

Henri Biva, Tony Robert-Fleury, and Léon Tanzi. He became a member of the Société des Artistes Français in 1897, earning several

distinctions: honorable mention (1898), third-class medal (1900), and recognition at the Exposition Universelle (1900).

His work adheres more closely to academic and naturalistic traditions than to Impressionism or the avant-garde.

His paintings are held in major museums such as the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes, Musée Boucher de Perthes (Abbeville),

Musée de Cahors, Musée de Charleville, Musée de Constantine, and Musée de Senlis.

The oil painting comes with a beautiful gilded frame from the same period, both frame and canvas carefully and professionally restored.

This artwork, Antique Landscape Painting with River and Water Lilies, is part of the Bisgart Collection and can be viewed by appointment at our gallery.
