Narcisse Ancelme (1872–1938) was born in Pillon, in the Meuse department (Lorraine, France), and trained under masters such as
Jules Adler and Dupuy. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Ancelme was active in the official French art scene, exhibiting at major salons and exhibitions, including the Salon des Indépendants
(jury-free exhibitions in Paris) in 1907 and 1909, and the Salon des Artistes Français between 1922 and 1929, where he presented
works such as Le lac en automne and other landscapes.
The oil painting is housed in a finely carved gilt wooden frame, which enhances the artwork and dates to the same period as the painting.
Both the frame and the antique canvas have been carefully and professionally restored.
