ANTIQUE OIL PAINTING, NATURE PAINTING, LANDSCAPE WITH  FLOCK AND SHEPHERD, OIL ON CANVAS,  XIX. (QP712)

The Antique Paintings category, Landscape with Flock and Shepherd, features a refined 19th-century oil painting on canvas.

These antique landscape paintings depict a serene pastoral scene immersed in the calm of nature, with a flock of grazing sheep,

accompanied by a shepherd and his dog in a natural rural setting.

The artwork showcases an elegant naturalistic landscape painting, with careful attention to animal details, the rendering of light,

and the strong sense of depth in the expansive river landscape visible in the background.

The composition is harmonious and typical of the XIX century European Realist tradition. The brushwork is controlled and measured,

sensitively conveying the texture of the sheep’s fleece and the softness of the grass.

The antique painting is signed lower left “J. Kornbeck”, a German landscape painter. German school.

Hermann Julius Kornbeck (1839–1920) was a German landscape painter, born in Winnenden into a prosperous family; his father,

Johann Franz Wilhelm Kornbeck, was a high-ranking court official.

From an early age, he showed a strong inclination toward drawing and art. Around the age of 25, he devoted himself entirely

to painting and, between 1864 and 1865, attended the landscape painting school of Heinrich Funk at the Kunstschule in Stuttgart,

where he produced his first major work depicting the village of Baach.

He also studied in Munich and Düsseldorf, both important centers of landscape painting at the time. During these years, he developed

his realist-naturalist style, favoring plein air painting, working directly from nature—a choice that defined his entire career.

One of his works is exhibited at the Stuttgart Museum. The oil painting is presented in its original gilded frame.

Both the artwork and the frame have been professionally and carefully restored.

This antique landscape painting, Antique Landscape with Flock of Sheep, oil on canvas from the 19th century, part of the

Bisgart Collection, is restored and available for viewing by appointment at our premises.
