ANTIQUE PAINTINGS OF LILAC FLOWERS, OIL ON CANVAS, EARLY 20TH CENTURY, ART DECO. (QF710)

The Antique Floral Paintings category presents a beautiful oil painting on canvas, dating from the late 19th century or the

early years of the 20th century. This is a charming still life depicting a large basket of purple and white lilac flowers.

The antique lilac flower painting is a harmonious and luminous composition, characteristic of French realist and

decorative painting. The spring flowers are rendered with soft brushstrokes and delicate colors against a neutral background.

This technique is typical of floral painting from the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, continuing the

tradition of Impressionism, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco.

The canvas painting is signed lower right “A. Kind”, a French painter known for still lifes and floral subjects.

Auguste Kind was born in Forbach, in the Moselle department, in 1863. He is mainly remembered as a painter of still lifes

and flower bouquets, active between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

He studied under Pierre Bourgogne and Charles Thomas, whose influence is evident in his technique and style.

Kind exhibited regularly at the Salon de Nancy from 1896 and at the Salon des Artistes Français, receiving an official honor in 1903.

Some of his works are preserved in the Nancy Museum. He continued working and exhibiting until at least 1924.

He lived between Nancy and Paris, where he also maintained a studio. The oil painting is housed in a gilt frame.

Both the painting and the frame have been professionally and carefully restored.
