STILL LIFE WITH FLOWERS, DAHLIAS AND VIOLETS, ANTIQUE PAINTINGS, FLORAL STILL LIFE, OIL ON CANVAS, 19TH CENTURY (QF752)

The antique paintings category, floral still life, presents a small oil on canvas painting from the late 19th century, of French origin.

The composition depicts a flower still life featuring dahlias, a transparent glass vase resting on a wooden surface, holding a rich and

harmonious bouquet, with a small bunch of violets at its base—flowers particularly beloved in 19th-century French floral painting.

The brushwork is confident and vibrant, with a masterful use of light that enhances the velvety texture of the petals and the clarity of the glass.

This antique floral still life painting is signed lower right by Pierrat, a French painter.

Nicolas Constant Pierrat (1829–1910) trained as an artist under Antoine Vollon and Jean-Baptiste-Antoine Guillemet, two well-known

painters of the period. His education connected him with Realism and the French tradition of landscape and still life painting.

Pierrat began exhibiting at the prestigious Salon des artistes français in 1867 and became a sociétaire member in 1883, a significant

recognition for artists of his time.

He also took part in exhibitions at the Société industrielle de Mulhouse between 1876 and 1908, at the Salon des artistes

strasbourgeois in 1904, and at the Musée de Mulhouse in 1906.

Several works by Pierrat are preserved in museum collections in Bucharest, Cambrai, and Mulhouse.

The painting is enhanced by an original gilded frame, contemporary with the artwork, which increases its decorative and collectible value.

Both the frame and the oil painting have been professionally restored with great care.

Therefore, these antique floral still life paintings with dahlias and violets, from the late 1800s, oil on canvas, from the

Bisgart Collection, can be viewed at our premises, where many other works may also be admired.
