ANTIQUE PAINTING, FEMALE PORTRAIT WITH BRAID, ALFRED BONNET, OIL ON CANVAS, 19TH CENTURY. (QR 769)

The antique paintings category presents an oil on canvas painting depicting a young woman portrayed from the waist up with a braid,

with her face turned towards the viewer. The antique artwork conveys a particular psychological intensity.

The face is the true focal point of the composition: the artist pays particular attention to the rendering of the features, complexion and gaze.

The essential composition allows the viewer's attention to be focused on the young woman's personality, following an established tradition

in French portraiture during the second half of the 19th century.

This antique artwork, a late 19th-century female portrait, is dated 1897 and signed Alfred Bonnet in the upper right, a French painter of

portraits, genre scenes, landscapes and still lifes, active in the artistic scene of 19th-century France.

Félix Alfred Bonnet (1847-1925) was born in Grenoble, and his artistic training is associated with Jean-Baptiste Guichard, an artist and teacher a

ctive in Lyon. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes de Lyon from 1866.

The painting is presented in a carved and gilded wooden frame.

The frame and the oil painting have been carefully and professionally restored.
