ANTIQUE BRONZE SCULPTURES, LARGE LIONESS, GIACOMO MERCULIANO, ART DECO, 20TH CENTURY. (STB103)
The Antique Sculpture offered here is crafted from Bronze and depicts a Large Lioness.
This 20th-century work has its original green patina. It dates back to the early 1900s. Art Deco.
The sculpture depicts a Lioness crouching on a rock, poised to attack her prey,
a menacing and aggressive beast, powerful and strong.
The sculpture is signed on the marble base by Merculiano, an Italian sculptor, medallist, and illustrator,
known especially for his elegant bronze representations of animals.
Giacomo Merculiano (1859–1935) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, where he created
the stucco statue Aspirazione and the bronze statuette Canto Fermo, exhibited at the Promotrice in Naples.
He moved to Paris, signing his works "Jacques Merculiano" or "J. Merculiano."
He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon and in Palermo. He received an honorary degree in 1889.
His refined and elegant style was highly regarded in both Italy and France.
A bronze statue with a marble base, it is in excellent condition.
