The Antique Floral Still Life Painting presented here depicts a rich bouquet of anemone flowers, an oil painting on canvas dating
from the 19th century. The antique painting depicts an elegant bouquet of white and pink anemone flowers, arranged in a refined
decorative Oriental-style vase, characterised by rich polychrome ornamentation.
Particularly striking is the ochre and golden-yellow fabric background, decorated with Oriental-inspired motifs and arranged like a
scenographic drapery. This is typical of the decorative taste of 19th-century French painting.
The contrast between the warm background, the green of the leaves and the delicate colours of the flowers gives the composition
a strong sense of decorative elegance. A harmonious and luminous palette lends the artwork a natural and refined character.
Antique paintings with flowers, floral still life, dated 1880 and signed “P. Jance” in the upper right part of the canvas,
a French painter of floral still lifes and compositions of flowers, landscapes and portraits.
Paul Claude Jance (1840–1915) was born in Lyon and belonged to the Lyon artistic tradition of the second half of the 19th century.
He received his training at the École des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, which he attended from 1855 to 1861, developing a solid
academic background in painting.
From 1863 onwards, Jance exhibited at the Paris Salon, an important official event in 19th-century French artistic life.
He is particularly known for his floral compositions, in which he paid special attention to the depiction of flowers, vases and decorative
elements. In 1884, he received recognition in Paris for one of his exhibited works.
The antique painting is presented in a gilded frame.
The antique frame and the oil painting have been carefully and professionally restored.
