The category antique paintings, landscape paintings presented here features an oil on canvas painting from the 19th century,

belonging to the French School. This is an antique 19th-century painting depicting a poetic natural landscape, portraying a

shepherdess with her dog in autumn pastures.

The female figure is seated beside her dog, her faithful companion, creating a scene of calm and contemplation.

In the background, rocks and vegetation appear, rendered with a soft brushstroke that gives the scene depth and silence.

The composition is balanced and harmonious, typical of 19th-century French painting, with warm, earthy tones.

The artwork conveys a strong sense of intimacy. This antique oil painting represents an excellent example of late 19th-century figurative art.

It is one of the antique paintings of the 1800s, dated 1895 and signed “Charles” at the lower right, by a French landscape painter.

The artist, Charles Jean Auguste Escudier (1848–1923), was a French painter active between the late 19th and early 20th centuries,

known as a genre painter, portraitist, and landscape artist of the French School.

He studied under prominent painters of his time, including Isidore Pils, and was influenced by French academic tradition.

Escudier regularly exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1869 onward, mainly producing oil paintings depicting

genre scenes, portraits, female figures, and everyday life.

His work belongs to the tradition of realism and French genre painting of the 19th century, characterized by delicacy of subject matter

and attention to detail. The antique painting retains its original gilded frame, contemporary with the artwork.

Both the painting and the antique frame have been professionally and carefully restored.
